Wow guys - I feel like I'm trying to be debunked or something here. When I mean 99% of our DNA is crap...I mean that that 99% doesn't code for any proteins. Proteins = life. Variable proteins = why some are lactose intolerant and some are - why some people have side effects and some don't. In other words...everything we need to know about disease, the way we react, why we're mad or happy...comes from proteins and therefore the 1% in question.
The only disease I can think of related to the other 99% is an actual physical anomaly on the DNA structure which would either not be conducive with life or more rarely profound malformation (think Down Syndrome).
I believe I stressed the importance of the other 99% in one of my last replies. I also mentioned the importance of variable tandem repeats in forensics and yes, even pharmocopredictive potential.
Sure there might be patterns in the other 99% - just doesn't code any proteins.
By the way - I have this dreadful habit of wanting people to understand because anything can be taught to anybody if it's taught in the right way. Don't confuse this with me trying to set anybody straight or me trying to debunk values or something. I don't know crap about stocks...yet finally I have a chance to contribute; not an opportunity to feed my ego.
