Trading in CMKX started getting wild in May or June 2004. The SEC began acting against them less than six months later.

That's pretty fast. People tend to forget that they oversee tens of thousands of equities. They also regulate the bond market, the derivatives markets, and all the rest of it. The "rest of it" is, I'm afraid, a great deal more important than penny stocks.

They did a good job with CMKX.
