I just listened to the CC. It's obvious to me that Mike Head isn't a Trucking Magnate that has been brought, kicking and screaming, into the internet communications age by a team of computer geeks. Head is a Trucking Magnate with his own inner computer geek. He had the vision to see the importance of modern communications in the trucking World and to build his business around it.
Many salient things in the CC. One I haven't seen mentioned is that MFW has about 160 third party logistics firms (3PLs) as customers. Not a huge number. But they represent over 20,000 truckers of various sizes. 20,000 is a huge number!
Little was said about AGO/CCF. but what was said was very significant to me. I got in AYNT in July, 2009. I was not impressed with the whole AGO thing. Mr Head said that their early PRs didn't explain things well. I heard dat, Mike!
Their early PRs spoke of doing business in California's Imperial Vally. Then with no explanation they showed up in Hendersonville, NC. They announced an association with a Buddhist Nun that was based in Hendersonville. When I read that PR, I thought, "So What!" Then I Googled the Nun. there were 8 full Google pages on her and her activities. The Nun is an icon in American Buddhism. OK. Buddhist icon---organic foods. That works.
Then the association with Cravo Farms comes out. Cravo originated in the Hendersonville area. I thought "Hey ! Maybe these folks have a plan!" Yesterday Mr Head reveals that the $300 million tomato contract is with Custom Pac. The World's largest tomato packager and marketer. Wanna guess where Custom Pac originated? Hendersonville, NC. And they still have a huge facility there.
I've never understood the structure of AGO/CCF's revenues and earnings. Are they going to get some kind of over ride from produce grown in Cravo Greenhouses? Mr Head said something that gives a look into how all this will work. He said AGO/CCF will produce the tomatoes for Custom Pac. I doubt this means AGO/CCF will erect X number of greenhouses, on their own land and hire workers.
What I hope they do is work on a kind of franchise arrangement with growers, much like McDonalds does with potato growers in Idaho. Only AGO/CCF would have one up on a McDonalds type franchise. McDonalds agreements are mainly based on potato quality and dependability of supply. Cravo greenhouses and their growing system would put them at a completely different level. I can only hope my guesses are close to reality.
