Barcelona beat Harpertown in many benchmarks, it was competitive. Sparc kept Sun alive for years much more than low margin x86 ever did. Customers only left in droves once Sun raised the White Flag as they did for DEC earlier which is a lesson that HP should learn too if it's thinking of messing its HP_UX base around. AMD x86 is providing GF with the volume it needs to fill its FABs and it will prop AMD as necessary to provide those volumes, it will be a constant thorn in Intel's side going forward.
