SemiconEng - So, there does seem to be a growing feeling, that a Coaching change is needed, in order to refocus the Team. It's sort of like a sports team that has great players, If you've got great players, and you're not winning, then maybe it's the coaching.

To extend this sports analogy, the Lakers in the late 90's had the great players, but Del Harris was the coach, and there were no championships. Phil Jackson takes over, and they win the next 3 championships.

I echo Joey's comments earlier, in that Barrett always seemed more of a manager than a leader. Stepping into Grove's shoes must have been overwhelming, and he had to run the company through the worst semi downturn in history, but there always seemed to be a lack forward vision. Given his trademark conservatism, Barrett should have forseen the failed strategy of his many acquisitions. In his defense, though, he did keep Intel profitable, an achievement not too many semi companies can claim.

Paul Otellini looks to be the leader Intel needs. His personality lends itself to more of the leadership vision this company needs to successfully battle the renewed competitive strength from AMD and find new markets to sustain future growth.
