There isn't a coherent "embedded space". That name covers everything from little single chip micros that sell for $0.25 or less to large clusters used in the air traffic control system. Pretty much anything can be used for embedded.

Shelton isn't that bad. Being a Dothan-derivative, it might not take a very big hit at all because of the lack of L2 cache. I am not sure it was worth the design effort to remove the L2, but that is another issue.
