Gambia's top intelligence officer arrested for being FBI agent
Banjul, Gambia - A senior officer of the Gambia National Intelligence Age ncy, Yankunba Badjie, has been arrested over suspicion of being an American FBI agent.
Badjie is currently being detained at the Gambia Police headquarter in Banjul, where he is helping the police in their investigations, authoritative sources confirmed to PANA Tuesday.
According to sources, Badjie was arrested for sending e-mails to the FBI in the US and some of the e-mail messages were found on his computer in his office at the NIA office in Banjul.
Sources said Badjie was the right hand man of President Yahya Jammeh at the NIA office, reporting directly to the president, adding that his arrest came as a surprise to many at the NIA.
Gambia Police Public Relations Officer Assistant Superintendent Sulayman Secka confirmed the arrest and detention of Mr. Badjie, noting that investigations into the matter were ongoing, while the security intelligences had set-up a panel to a lso look into the matter.
