Regarding dataplay copies:
In spite of all the DRM restrictions, we're talking about ~ 5 DIGITAL copies, but you can always make analog copies, ie connect your dataplay device output to your soundcard and record WAV files, that can then be burned onto CDs for friends, use on computers, etc. Considering that so many people are perfectly happy with the quality of CDs that they've made from downloaded MP3s,the CDs recorded in the above fashion would sound considerably better if using any halfway decent soundcard.
My band usually records our live shows on a DAT machine, which we then convert to WAV files, then CDs, and the difference between the DAT source recordings and the resulting CDS is negligible.
