For the record, while Aristotle, St. Thomas, Catholic Moral Theology and the Founders all upheld self-evident principles, none of them believed that the application of those principles was equally self-evident. According to St. Thomas (and I’m sure the Founders would agree), we can’t simply repeat revealed truths to answer moral questions, we have to think about how those truths are applied. The premise that follows from this is that moral responsibility encompasses both principles and actions.
