I can assume most longs hold a minimum of 10 million shares on average

maybe some have 1 million and others have 20 million, but in the end, i feel the average position is 10 million shares

if there are 100 current investors, just a round easy number to deal with, and they avg position is 10,000,000, that would mean investors hold about 1 billion shares

isn't the float only 850 million?
