iamshazzam, I was probably not being all that clear myself, and I had a few post deleted where I was showing myself poorly to IOWN. I am not for crucifying our guys at the prison. Having been enlisted and trained not to think and to follow orders (and I asumed some of these guys were following some kind of orders)I have a lot of misgivings about even court marshalling low ranking enlisted personell unless they were acting alone. And I am not in any way comparing what they did with what the animals did on that video tape. But I am against the idea the anything we do to anyone in Iraq is justified because this is war. I know it's war. But when we argue that anything goes in a war we have crossed the moral barrier that separates us from the animals we are fighting.

I know some of you will argue that is simply the way of things, but I don't agree.

We need to stop terrorism. Short term and long term. Short term we need to kill a few people. More than a few people. Long term we need to give people a future and deprive the terrorist of their recruiting grounds. We simply can't kill them all. That's neither morally right not practically possible. In theory, giving people a future is what we are trying to do in Iraq. If we can pull that off. If we can help foster a viable state there with a growing economy, then terrorist will have a new enemy in their front yard. Let's hope we pull that off, and it's toward that ends that I think it's important we be smart.

I could be wrong. My wife will tell you I've been known to be wrong several times a day.

Have a good day guys, and I know we all love this country.
