I don't think it is fair to question his suitability for the position when you don't have any concrete information on where he has worked before.

If one is a sales manager, one understands how to launch new products into the market place through retail chains because one sits down with marketing and finds out the following:

1. What is our product?
2. What is our potential target market (i.e. who are our customers)?
3. What sales strategy are we going to employ to most effectively target that market? i.e. via distribution with existing sales staff or with our own sales people, or with commission based agents etc?

There is more to it than the above, but those are the basics.

Has he done any of the above before? It looks like he's been sales director for chemicals manufacturer based on DD in here this afternoon. If it's the same guy, it means he has the experience of managing a product portfolio, heading up a sales team and selling that product on a national basis.

In sales, it doesn't matter what the product is in a sense, but for sales people, having something new (i.e. Stemulite) that nobody else has is particularly motivating, because you can charge more for it and make more commission.
