NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Not even the high-tech Nasdaq stock market was ready for near-100 degree-temperatures in in New York. About 400 thinly traded Nasdaq stocks were halted for some 15 minutes Monday morning because of overheating at a data center in the Northeast, according to spokeswoman Bethany Sherman. The affected stocks were those that hadn't yet begun to trade. The affected stocks ran from Abigail Adams National Bancorp (AANB) to ZipRealty (ZIPR) and were halted between 10:58 and 11:11 a.m., Sherman said. "It was associated with an air-cooled chiller leak that caused temperatures to rise in the data center," said Sherman. "The systems are back on, and the A/C is back on, and all is well." Millennium Cell (MCEL), which was supposed to be halted for trading, changed hands during the lapse. Those trades were later broken, Sherman said. Temperatures were running around 93 degrees in Midtown Manhattan, with a high of 95, according to Yahoo. Some customers' orders were temporarily switched to a backup facility on the MidAtlantic coast as a precautionary measure, though the Northeast center's cooling issue was quickly resolved, Sherman said. "It was an old-economy issue," Sherman said. -By Rob Curran, Dow Jones Newswires; 201-938-5176; robert.curran@dowjones.com (Dawn Wotapka contributed to this article.)
