Gold mine? While the cosmetic sub is certainly worthy of gold mine status, it is much more than just a gold mine. It's the stepping stone to even bigger 'mines'. Diamond mines, and mines of other precious gems, in a hypothetical way.

It's the key to the warehouse of keys, whereby even greater keys to other kinds of 'warehouses' exists.

In relative comparison to companies that 'go for the low-lying fruit', Don is picking the 'choicest fruit, from the top of the tree', whereby he will use the seeds of, to 'grow even sweeter fruit'.

Like ninjaturtle (man of esteemable phraseology) says, "he is the man, who seizes the moment".

For two years, people have had many opps to 'seize the moment' at a good price, and he who passes by it, passes by a wonderful means to an end, to say the least. A means that, as captured by 'the fore-sighted' will not only profit personally, but also support a benefit to the entire human race...and beyond (veterinary uses)!
