wbmw - re: "Paul, where is AMD's 90nm? A move to lengthen the lifespan of 130nm would suggest that 90nm is having problems.
No confirmation on when the new 90 nm Opteron/Athlon 64 will be available ("H2 2004"), but probably at the end of Q3

another speed grade (2.5 or 2.6 GHz?) in 130 nm is very likely (almost certain)."

It sounds to me like we'll see it soon enough. I wouldn't assume that AMD's capability to put out another speed grade on 130nm means a problem with 90nm.

"Where is DDR2? Nice excuses about DDR2 not impressing at all, but I feel that this is proof positive that the integrated memory controller is holding back on getting new technology to market faster. My prediction is that when Intel has it and AMD does not, that it will suddenly become the quintessential selling feature in high end PCs.

Current estimate is that the Athlon 64 platform will not change to DDR-II before the end of 2005."

My prediction is that when DDR2 becomes a real force in the market, AMD will be there. They have always gone the way of the market. They were ready with DDR, weren't they? Why you think it's any harder to update a section of the processor that was designed from the get-go to be updated, as opposed to a discrete hub that has to be updated, too, is unclear to me.

"What about socket 754? So long, we hardly knew you?"

Anyone who expected socket 754 to be the long term representative hasn't been paying attention.
