But I fear the 'hearts and minds' thing is blown 3 years ago.
But reading between the official line.
The Brits have given up Basra itself and I could go over to the Basra base to a job they have been trying to recruit for 2 months hardening the base they have tactically withdrawn too.

Hey the US diplomatic corp have to be 'forced 'to go.
Maybe they will get to know a little of what the troops have to put up with ?!! Goodie!!
No one is interested not least because of the tons of DU dust which is quite hazardous to ones health.

The 'Private' armored taxi service from downtown Bagdad to the airport did cost 12,000 US one way. I dont know if they still run it. But the 'green zone' and corridor aint as 'green anymore.

I know this offends some sensibilities.
But its what happens when you dont know why or what your doing in a strange country I am afraid.
I have to say that was at that base through the Iran- Iraq war when it was being built. Occasionally shells would fly over but we were not targeted - that was until the radar was being tested. Somehow we didnt feel thretened and the job got finished despite.
We are lucky enough to have this great info. thing called the WWW.- have a look around to always check the veracity of what the 'official media' is not saying.
And as I say this is all just me.
Meanwhile hint -Brazil has just proved a 5 bill barrel oil field - hint. Ethanol. Hydro and the Amazon basin not touched yet.
