Ruby,

Funny, isn't it. STP had few, if any, options back then so they took what they felt was a good deal...and it was a great deal to overcome the obstacles of a dispute with big, bad Nigeria. ERHC played a huge role in this and asked to be compensated for all of Offors work with preferential treatment. STP had plenty of time to weigh options and get whatever advice they felt they needed...and they took the deal of thier own free will. They could have said NO.

What better offers did they have?...None!

If they had said NO and tried to get assistance from other entities they could have paid an even higher price...for even less rights of thier own.

If 'Big Oil' would have gotten involved, the majority of the negotiations would have been with Nigeria...at the expense of little ole what's their name...STP. STP would have been a casualty of progress...never to be heard from again.

Badog
