A 12vdc inverter can be used to power any portable 110AC gadget such as computers, TV's, Karaoke machines, boom boxes etc. They normally plug into the cigarette lighter socket and require no permanent installation. They will not "kill" the car battery because properly designed ones will cut off while the battery still has starting current available.
