I am sorry for the delay in response. My source is now indicating that "maybe" there was a shortage of sockets, or "maybe" the demand was too low to make the shortage noticable. At any rate, it certainly doesn't seem to have materialized as a threat to Intel lately.

On another subject, the AMD redefinition of performance from clock speed to relative performance seems to have hit a nerve.
