Here's a little bit of second hand oil field gossip from my guy on the ground. See what you make of it. My thoughts last..

A well was being drilled for Dragon in the last week or so. Before you drill a well you have pit dug so that the drilling mud can be mixed and recirculated through the mud pump as the well as drilled.

McCormick was drilling the well and the contractor who had been hired, but not paid, to dig the pit showed up. He was pissed and said that he was going to unload equipment and cover up the pit. Driller said, "Let me get the suction hose out first". He did. Pit was covered.

OK... typically shallow wells are drilled on a per foot basis unless the operator causes some hangup. Generally then it goes into "rig time".

And about the worst thing you could have happen is to have circulation of mud shut off due to lost circulation (or otherwise, in this case)..
