So I'll take a stab at that . Co has been burning thru cash trying to get hospitals to recruit for their trials What was the problem . The problem was that all previous filters used in the dialysis circuit in the ICU ...to reduce white blood cell count ( over inflammatory response ) had removed / moderated more than just the neutrophils often leading to worsening of the patients condition . So expectations were pretty low for ICU's filter . That changed with the results of the pediatric trial ...recently released . That trial showed a 50% drop in mortality ...using the ICU filter in a special way / time to moderate mainly /only neutrophils .
So story has definitely changed . If the interim analysis currently underway also shows a 50% drop in mortality in the 100 patients being reviewed ...50 on SOC and 50 with the ICU filter added .....if the 50 on the ICU filter also show a 50% reduction in mortality ( as in the pediatric trial ) vs the 50 on SOC ...theres a reasonable chance this trial could be stopped for over whelming efficacy SOC = standard of care JMO Kiwi
