Exactly. Lightwave and it’s materials ate still in the race.
If people would listen to other companies ( revenue companies and start ups) in the photonics space they would understand that there has been a massive industry shift between 2016 and 2025, Silicon Photonics has gradually become the industry platform of choice. That wasn’t the case in 2016 . CPO was a far fetched dream and considered too much of an engineering challenge. Not anymore,
The trillion dollar semi-conductor ( chip) industry, the industry leaders themselves, understood the limitations of the ( crystalline) legacy systems and only since 2024 , when NVIDIA decided to opt for silicon photonics and a CPO architecture , have they in earnest started to drive for a the change towards photonics using the existing top notch semi conductor industrial infrastructures.
These industries have understood change is needed to survive and to compete and that 8 lasers, 16 lasers, 8 lanes and 16 lanes are really the logical end of an era. They have understood that the future is 400 G or 1Tb per lane integrated on the smallest chip configurations enabling huge step improvements in overall bandwidth, energy consumption and costs.
Simply put chips with the optics now integrated on the smallest of the semi conductor chips. This has huge impact on the existing pluggable transceiver companies. They have now a new incredible competitor : chips or PIC’s and now CPO.
So I am happy Lightwave is still in the marathon race, able to follow and to play a significant role in this ‘ once in a lifetime ‘ industry change process.
Lightwave was relevant in 2012 with its polymer material , in 2016-2018 with 10G - 50 Gbps modulators, with its PIC initiatives for 100 - 200G per lane, now in 2025 supporting the semi conductor industry with its know how and e/o polymer materials to support the AI infrastructure . Go Lightwave.
