I have come to conclude that Lebby was caught off guard, overwhelmed, by all the commercial implications of producing custom specific PiC’s in a highly demanding and ultra fast changing market environment with just a small handful of staff. Yes, we shareholders were made to believe Lightwave could commercialize ‘its PIC’ , but creating prototypes to satisfy all specifications of multiple customers turned out to be too difficult. In that sense I agree we were naive and too inexperienced to understand the enormous task at hand. We believed ‘the Guru’ himself.
The responsibility of commercialization has now been delegated to the big companies themselves in order not “to miss the upcoming wave” in the exploding transceiver market. Indeed we will see soon enough if this change of go to market strategy paid off. Yves went with this strategy because he felt it would work.
