Biosect, I think it's important to remember that shorts didn't just bring down biotech's, in 2008 hedge funds, working to bring companies down, brought down the entire economy, and put some of those appearing to be our strongest banks and brokerages into bankruptcy. Naked shorting was considered illegal, but Chris Cox, the head of the SEC said to lay off the bank stocks for a month or he'd actually prosecute against it. What's the good of a law that's only enforced if things are so bad you have to announce you'll actually enforce a law.

I can't say how much of the shorting here is naked, but MM's are the one group permitted to do so, but it's supposed to be short term while they're balancing between supply and demand. Do you think all 7 of the MM's are playing by the rules and not creating sustained naked short positions to help other shorts do their thing? I wish we could open their books to discovery, but I still believe they'll settle before it ever happens.

To me the sickest thing in 2008 was the bonuses paid to hedge fund managers that went into billions. They earned a great deal of money for those who invested in them, all by bringing down companies and the economy in general. Sadly it's legal, but some of the practices aren't, but again, what's the good of laws that are almost never enforced. Of course I don't like investing to bring things down, but again it's legal. Of course they're gambling on bringing something down, a short squeeze is a beautiful thing when they're wrong. I don't know how many we still have, but I believe that many have gotten out of their position, some ahead, others lost, but all could have lost far more. Those still short could truly be headed for the worst losses in their lives.
