It's owned by Northern Dynasty Minerals, a financially struggling company. The project has faced significant opposition due to its potential environmental impact on the Bristol Bay fishery. Major mining companies, including Mitsubishi Corporation, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, and First Quantum Minerals, have all abandoned the project. The Pebble Mine has been a major concern for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. The project was also a concern for the last three U.S. Administrations, which denied permits or vetoed the project.
