The fact that this 550 million number keeps coming up with the yanks, now don't know if it is true. but if that is all they will offer, they will not get him in my opinion. I believe the Yanks don't need the best offer, but it is gonna have to start with a 6 to sign him in my opinion. My guess is he gets about 650 million or more from either the mets or red sox. And no way anybody would not sign for close to 100 million more, and I doubt he wants to go to toronto.
Of course this offseason being successful it all starts with Soto for the mets. there is almost no path to a good offseason without him. can they make it a decent one, sure. But the only thing that would excite me considering the GM doesn't like giving long-term deals to pitchers apparently hence possibly out on fried and burnes, which I'm okay with if it means soto and pete, and a great bullpen. But if you give me b players and B pitchers, how excited can I possibly get. Could the GM/Manager get the best out of these B and C players, possibly. But if you win 90 games you overachieve, because lets face it the 2024 mets got everything and more out of the talent they had. There Starting pitching was decent, but not great. There bullpen was a disaster for a team that got to the NLCS, and there lineup was good, but also not great. That doesn't sound like a championship team. And if the idea is to compete for a championship.
Is montas gonna be as good as severino, Manaea, or even quintana last year. My guess is no. Are you gonna be able to recreate that insane chemistry you had last year. I doubt it. So how do you make it up, with talent, and they need alot of it right now in my opinion. But I will call this malpractice if he doesn't spend a nice amount on making a super bullpen he can at least do that if he is not gonna go after the big pitchers. Hopefully mets get soto they really need him and a bunch more, nothing on the market nearly as good in my opinion.
