>>> … making the IOH (InP-organic hybrid) modulator a promising candidate for future ultra-high-speed optical modulation.
>>> REF. 15 = To overcome this trade-off, the InP-organic hybrid (IOH) optical modulator 13–16) on an InP-on-Insulator wafer 17–19) has been proposed. …. Consequently, this results in a significant improvement in the trade-off between modulation bandwidth and optical loss.
>>> Conclusions: Our results indicate that the IOH modulator offers a significant improvement in the trade-off between modulation bandwidth and insertion loss compared to the SOH modulator, primarily due to the high electron mobility in InP. The IOH modulator achieves a modulation bandwidth of over 500 GHz with 2 dB insertion loss. In addition, we investigated on the relationship between the modulation bandwidth and modulator length, and we showed the further improvement of modulator bandwidth over 650 GHz by shortening the length of the modulator. These result hold promise for the IOH modulator as high-speed and energy-efficient optical interconnects in datacenter networks.
