Yes, in some states. But not all that many states have open primaries, in which you can vote for candidates of the party you're not registered with.

I think what's actually happening is simply that some PACs are running commercials for the MAGA nutjobs, in the hope they'll be easier to beat.

I know that was done in the case of the appalling Doug Mastriano here in Pennsylvania. God forbid he should win.
