Are you referring to "Dividend Capture" which is buying a stock right before ex div date, collecting the dividend and selling immediately afterward. It doesn't work. All sorts of problems with that.

For one thing, stocks usually drop after payouts by the amount of the payout. At least two mutual funds recently tried it and failed... AGD and AOD.
