MI D,

I agree with what you're saying, but for now and in the immediate future there is no generic equivalent to DCVax-L. No alternative can be offered the patients as, this may work and will cost less.

Year's ago when I was under Kaiser Permanente care I was on a couple such generics that proved ineffective over time when I was told by my Dr. that I'd been on them long enough that he now could prescribe a drug that would be more effective. It was, but I lost respect for my Dr. in not telling me about it far sooner and letting me either pay the additional cost, or fight with the insurance company. I've learned that the patient needs to advocate for themselves, too many Drs. do what the accountants say and won't even tell the patients of alternatives.

I cannot say that DCVax-L will immediately be adopted by all who deal with brain cancer, and yes, I believe it's shown that it should be used on all brain cancers, not just GBM which is considered the worst of them. I believe that most others are equally deadly in time, but the patient may have more time.

By the way, a friend has been diagnosed with cancer in the pancreas and liver, I know the prognosis isn't good, but I'm hoping that one of the DCVax's might play a part. At this point they a still determining the course of treatment, I don't know if it could be operable. I'd also welcome suggestions that I'd pass on to my friend. She is being considered for admission to City of Hope and I know she'll get great care there, but even they may not be aware of something that one of you may know about.
