My dad joined the Navy when he was 15 after Pearl Harbor. Fought in WWII. When the Korean War started the first men to get drafted were the ones that were the right age and had been in the military before. So off he went to Korea, in the Army.
Since he had a new baby daughter at home, he was a little mad about having to go fight again. It sort of soured him on the military after that. That’s why he wouldn’t let me join. I wanted to fly Apaches.
My brother was more strong-willed than me. He served 24 years in the Air Force.
