A lot of us have puzzled over why AVXL has not been jumped on as a new path to CNS disease knowledge and (myself in particular) wonder why FDA and others have continued to beat the Amyloid tau dead horse even after 30+ years of continued/repeated trial failures. (note falconer has offered an explanation, which I agree makes sense).
The likely/plausible explanation is a field of study known as "Mental Models" , or mental blocks, fixation on time held personal biases. All sorts of reasons (some hard-some soft science) which we may have all experienced at one time.

I completed a two year curriculum @MIT w/Dr. Peter Senge, in studies of systems dynamics. Dr. Senge is a brilliant, humble guy who is particularly gifted at speaking/listening and rational interaction at high levels in large groups. Note: these are the kind of group setting often found in complex-technical sessions where a group of strong willed, highly trained people are required to review facts and get some kind of agreement on what the facts are telling us. (sound familiar???).
I also have had experience as a third party in such session where FDA consent decree decisions-findings-investigations are on the table being processed. So, with this kind of context-background I am not surprised that some(maybe all) of what Dr.M.(AVXL) has been saying and doing on behalf of CNS patients-subjects-indications-results-other may be seen as contradictory by some/many who have different , "Mental Models-for decades". . These are closely held, deep faith convictions often based on decades of study and (often taken)_ as leaders in a field of study. (like talking to a wall).
These people are smart, experienced , in positions of authority and...THE ARE THE LAW.. So if you have ever been in these sessions, you get it. This is what AVXL has been up against (proof not withstanding) we need to continue b/c, we are winning. They expect us to be worn down, but we know in our guts that we are going to take this hill.

So, hang in , we are on the final stretch, the TRIFECTA is making the clubhouse turn. They must be convinced technically, legally, intellectually and politically. (BTW-Change management ain't easy)

Dr. Senge has a way of explaining what we are up against. It is called "Mental Models". It is collectively based on a simple concept. People have a lot at stake and maybe feel there is less risk to stay where they are (intellectually) than it is to RISK A CHANGE...regardless of arguments and facts presented. AVXL is presenting a new model . IMO, when results begin to show conclusively that AVXL (GOT THIS) the established contrarians will be convinced to change or to go down w/their beliefs...for no good reason.

This is a definition/explanation of Dr. Senge's mental model work. It is brilliant-simple stuff.

Dr Peter Senge definition of mental model
I love Peter Senge's definition of mental models: " deeply ingrained assumptions, generalizations, or even pictures and images that influence how we understand the world and how we take action." Our mental models are formed by our experiences, beliefs, and values and determine the way we perceive life.Feb 28, 2018
