I was deleting some old posts I had saved, and this exchange popped up. At the time there were skeptics against the construction due to locals losing access to lands on the other side of the canal. A msg board discussion included the following posts. I dwelled on the last item and realized that I had not caught the significance of the last poster's comment. The poster mentioned a Boom Bridge. At 1st glance to me is, why not? Would need regular bridges on the Pacific and west side if the lake, and maybe another on the Gulf side, but otherwise just use barges or maybe the Boom Bridge. Admittedly, the cables would have to be very high to allow ocean liners, maybe an aircraft carrier, some sailing ships, though.

Has anyone wondered how they are going to build bridges over this alleged "grand canal". Said bridges need to have more clearance than the Tampa Bay Bridge. (66 meters). Not even ONE reporter has ever asked this question. This would apply in two locations at minimum. The bridges themselves (if ever built) would take longer than the claimed 5 years.

Marc xxxxxx, I have no doubt the canal and all these bridges can be built..but in a country where everything takes 5 times the time to finish...i want to see if it will actually happen..I personally have mixed feelings about tit all

Roger xxxxxx, Well it is possible if it is Chinese that is doing the work, remember seeing they built a 30 story building all included in a few hours, all prefab including curtains and bed sheets, I know a guy who came here to repair the generator in Puerto Sandino,...See More

Clint xxxxxx, All they need is a barge - take the Wawa boom for an example, 2 hours drive out of Puerto Cabezas, RAAN. It takes all the traffic from the Pacific to the RAAN. They will use low teck. My 2 cents
note, this is in NE Nicaragua near the Gulf.
