You know, I went back and looked at the patent, and the time it took to mature the dendritic cells was not in minutes (as you suggested), but hours.

Dendritic cells prepared by Method B (16 hour treatment) produce more TNF.alpha. than dendritic cells prepared with a less optimal method: average of 149 ng/l million DC/24 hours versus 50 ng/l million DC/24 hours. TNF.alpha. is in turn associated with stable disease (SD) at week 8 (see Table 1 above), which is a predictor for better survival (see Table 2 above).

The data demonstrate that a 16 hour treatment (Method B) is optimal for the activation of partially mature DCs for intratumoral injection in cancer immunotherapy.



16 minutes would have probably produced toddler dendritic cells. :)
