Hi Binder ... A FUD is an individual who wants to bash a public company or advertisement, etc. Most of the time they run out of negative factual "evidence" and thus resort to a strategy known as FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt).

Basically, this strategy consists of confusing the public by slightly bending the facts and leaving the rest to the imagination of the readership. It's a new and worrying strategy on the internet.

FUD was first defined by Gene Amdahl after he left IBM to start his own company. Thus to fight back IBM sales people develop "FUD" which is the fear, uncertainty, and doubt that they used to instill in the minds of potential customers who might be considering [Amdahl] products. The basic concept, of course, was to persuade potential clients to go with safe IBM gear rather than with competitors' equipment. This implicit coercion was traditionally accomplished by promising that Good Things would happen to people who stuck with IBM, but Dark Shadows loomed over the future of competitors' equipment or software. After 1990 the term FUD was associated increasingly frequently with Microsoft, and has become generalized to refer to any kind of disinformation used as a competitive weapon.

The landmark of this type of negative tactic is the twisting of factual information into a negative by (POS/PAS tactics. (Purposely Added Syntax or Purposely Omitted Syntax) And of course, the apple to oranges type comparison and any other impression management tactic to sway the readership to not look favorably on what the FUD is being negative on for whatever motive they have.
