School transportation electrification program
The Quebec government has set the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target for 2030 at 37.5% below the 1990 level.

With the 2030 Green Economy PlanThis link will open in a new window. (PEV 2030), unveiled on November 16, 2020, Quebec aims to achieve its target for reducing GHG emissions by maximizing the reductions achieved in its territory.

The electrification of school transport is a key sector of intervention to reduce GHG emissions from the transport sector, with a reduction potential representing nearly 22 tonnes of CO 2 equivalent per bus per year. However, in January 2021, there were only 130 electric buses registered for school transportation purposes out of a fleet of more than 10,000 vehicles.

By 2030, the electrification of 65% of the school bus fleet would prevent nearly 800,000 tonnes of GHGs. Thus, the School Transport Electrification Program contributes to the achievement of the EPI 2030 objectives by offering interesting potential for reducing GHG emissions. It is also part of action 1.1.1.4 of the EPI 2030 implementation plan. This link will open in a new window., which aims to support the electrification of buses. It is funded by the Electrification and Climate Change Fund.

The program has been in effect since April 20, 2021. It covers the period from 1 st April 2021 to 31 March 2024.
