That is not really how it works for MM's, there is no borrowing of shares.

Basically you bought 55k of shares that the MM's didn't have, they sold you "air" shares that they will need to cover within 3 days to settle the transaction or get slapped with a fail to deliver notice.

The issue is an overall lack of consistent buying from retail so MM's can put a cap on the price, but there is also a lack of retail selling making it hard to MM's to cover. Generally speaking MM;s are price indifferent they care more about volume and the ability to easily cover. However they do not like losing money, so they are keeping the price in this range since there is not consistent buying and trying to wear down retail to eventually sell so they can cover
