Poorly written article with some fundamental flaws in their analysis. Won't stop the hype, but also not likely to add real support. Yeah, Apple is likely in the mix, but Microsoft and Google still appear to be more likely.

Apple needs lidar, but they can simply buy the parts as a customer. If other rumors this week are true, they are looking at going a different direction for their AR product relying on cameras and visual integration on a screen rather than view through lenses like the HoloLens2/IVAS use. Some challenges to overcome, but potentially much cheaper path to AR.

And while Apple clearly has the money to buy what they want, they also have the reputation of low-balling the companies they do buy up.
