How's your Mum's hip healing?

She's been back into hospital for a week now Tom, following another slip - fortunately with no injury. It was quite a large op as she has Osteoporosis so they did a form of cork screw through the thigh bone and meccano type 'strapping'. She was progressing well for the week after the op, up and walking 30 yards (with a zimmer frame), but then when she contracted Covid and was moved to a isolation hospice where physio wasn't really followed and she regressed. She's now marked for hospital discharge as of today and they're looking to move her into a rehab home for a couple of weeks to build up her strength and mobility before returning home.

As for Covid/vaccinations, over 17 million of the UK's 65 million have now had their first jab. Children wont be vaccinated so more like a 47 million population to be vaccinated - with 36% of those having had at least one jab.

Weather wise the UK in more recent years seems to have the summer shifted to the spring. Typically been quite warm/sunny during the months prior to the kids breaking up for their 6 week summer break in late July, and then when they do break up the weather turns cloudy. If that pattern repeats then the warmer summer like weather that might start come Easter will likely also push down Covid numbers.

We've not really had a lockdown in the UK, millions have flown in/out during the year mostly freely. Roads are just as congested as ever, but "non-key" shops and leisure centres etc. are closed. Relatives in Ireland in contrast have to get written permission to leave their home, have to have groceries delivered and are stopped by the police within 3 miles of their home, no such practices in the UK and some have for instance driven the entire length of the country and back again without being stopped. Masks are supposed to be worn in shopping centres but some/many don't bother, nor do many of the shops enforce it - likely because of concerns of a aggressive reaction, a consequence of a 'liberal' generation that's never been allowed to be told 'no' or be punished.

Regards.

Clive.
