It is quite interesting and accurate, here's the wikipedia on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benford%27s_law The write up I read about it years ago said that he began exploring the theory when he noticed that the pages in the library's logarithm tables for 0 and 1 were more dirty from use than the higher numbers. It can be used against a set of books to see if someone is cooking the books. Cool stuff.
