However, a plea deal certainly is. Some take it as far as agreeing to a deal right before a trial starts. I agree it could happen at any point.
But I think the issue here is reputation more than guilt. If Dr Schena takes any deal, it most likely will involve some jail time and brand him a felon for life. That would surely ruin his reputation for future work. I'm thinking he's going to take a shot and hope for the best to salvage what's left of his reputation. But a trial will be very expensive, and given what's been presented along with the Grand Jury moving forward it looks like an uphill battle. That along with if he loses, the court might weigh heavy on a sentence given his stance.
But whatever anyone thinks about how this will end, it will give everyone here a window into the last 5 years. No more quiet periods or comical (or potentially criminal) PR/Twitter messages.
So no mater if you want to see the company rise from the ashes or buried 6 feet under, we will get to see the inner workings of what went on and why. It will give everyone more clarity and for some justice.
