Well that’s False again. It’s not a “theory”, it’s a FACT, aka as Real, not fabricated.
As I said there’ve been a few “penny for the lot” trades where traders essentially purge a security from an account at a complete loss to offset capital gains on real stock. FINRA even issues a Notice to remind firms that sales of low-value OTC equity securities positions from customer accounts - deemed by the customer and firm to be “worthless” - are subject to FINRA trade reporting rules and must be reported to FINRA for publication purposes. These sales sometimes are referred to as “PENNY FOR THE LOT” transactions.
