Amazing & overlooked DD

I usually only lurk here, but had to register to post this gem:

Covid 19: Texas A&M System Responds
Chancellor Sharp visits with three CIADM scientists
June 4, 2020

excepted text below begins around the 18 min mark.

FYI Dr. Treat is TAMU’s director of NCTM (national center for therapeutics manufacturing) and works closely with BARDA and CIADM

Chancellor Sharp (Interviewer):
“Part of what you do is make partnerships with industry and government…give us some examples”

Dr Treat:
“Recently we’ve worked with a company called IDRI and iBio to submit a proposal to BARDA for a Covid vaccine produced in plants, that iBIo has developed. They produce it in giant sheets under controlled light in tobacco plants, and the purification process they go through is in various steps in the modular clean rooms in that particular facility”

“One thing the government has missed in their overall buildout of programs is the ability to fill out adjuvant to go out into the national stockpile separately from the antigen that will be mixed later on … BARDA is looking at funding us, and they’re also funding IDRI which is the adjuvant developer”

Interviewer:
Any idea when that decision may be made by BARDA on that?

Dr. Treat:
Uhh…yes, it’s challenging to tell when they’ll make a decision. I do know they’re in the review — we finished some additional questions that they had last week, so we hope in the next couple months they will release the funds for us to start moving in that activity with that.

---

take note of how Dr. Treat answers the question about when they'll make a decision. he can barely contain his excitement as he looks to Dr. Mogford — as if to acknowledge this is a loaded question and to tread carefully — then answers with a huge grin
