Very large trades before open:

I see that once in a while, often exactly at 6:30 which probably involved negotiations between buyer and seller -- and it's obvious when all the prices (OHLC) are the same. Probably involves an investment trust wherein there were negotiations and final agreement between buyers and sellers prior to Open (and perhaps even prior to the previous day's Close, but couldn't get completely filled during that after-hours trade). Or by some dumb-ass rich football player or "professional" wrestler with more money than brains -- but there's no way that guy would get the same prices for all four parameters (OHLC) because no market would give him that.

Far more often very soon after the close, but only because everything was in the process of being agreed upon and executed at the end of the day but couldn't be executed between those market makers prior to the closing bell (as there were not enough shares right as the market was closing). I see that fairly often, and it should not get special attention except perhaps by the SEC.

As an average trader, it's not wise to trade right at the Open or the Close unless you have insider knowledge, and that's illegal.

Maybe I wrote that too fast. I hope it makes sense.
