I remember driving around Los Angeles with my Grandmother as she moved Cashier Checks from one bank to another to get better CD rates and electric blankets for the mountain cabin.

It was like a treasure hunt. I think the FDIC limit at the time was $15k - equal to $113k today.

My Grandfather's broker from Sutro & Co called on him once a month to decide the investment disposition for the prior month's dividends and interest. That was fun to sit in on as well. Pre-internet I guess.

Tax time was interesting as they filed separately and, for reasons I still don't understand, they often swapped 'ownership' of different assets after intense negotiations - or at least who was going to get to claim what that year.

We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
