Warren Bobrow=WB: Where are you from? When you were a child, what was your ambition? Why did you take this path?

Chris Rebentisch=CR: I’m from Las Vegas, Nevada. When I was growing up I wanted to be a judge. I thought I would be good at handing down creative sentences. I actually ended up on the other side of the judge’s desk, however, due to my interest in and passion for the cannabis plant. I wasn’t any good at school; I didn’t learn the same way everyone else learned. And the education system I grew up in didn’t exactly equip teachers with the tools or a curriculum that helped children with different learning styles succeed. It wasn’t until my mid 20s when I found out how I learned the best and, by then, traditional education was behind me. And you need a traditional education to wear the robe and hold the gavel.

As for how I ended up as a professional in the cannabis industry, I always was attracted to the plant. I started cultivating cannabis quite early—I grew my first plant at age 14. My parents found it, though, and attempted to put a stop to my newfound hobby. In turn, I got smart about where to grow the plants—I'd often plant them on the side of my house or at my friends’ houses. I’ve always been fascinated by the culture surrounding cannabis and even the illegality of cultivating it. At that age, it was such a rush to be doing something I wasn’t supposed to be doing. And even though a lot about cannabis has changed since then—namely, the legalization of cannabis in several states across the country, including right here in Nevada—I still have the same fascination as that curious 14-year old. I took a break from cultivating in my early 20s, but then got right back into it—and much more seriously than before. I started cultivating continuously around 2009, experimenting with different strains and especially noticing the different attributes CBD-dominant strains had. It also was a treat to see people benefit from the plants I was growing. Basically, at that point, I was hooked. Natural wellness is what I wanted to focus my life’s work on.

WB: How do you explain what you do to someone from the east coast. For example: stigmas. How do you deal with them?

CR: I believe my upbringing prepared me quite well to deal with the stigmas and misconceptions that many believe about cannabis. I come from a very conservative, Judeo-Christian background, so I’ve been fighting the stigma for a long time now. And part of that is telling people what the plant does, giving them information about cannabis beyond the well-known fact that it contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive compound. I also like to share testimonials, as I’ve seen several consumers benefit from cannabis use for a myriad of reasons. I’ve seen cancer patients’ spirits lifted. I’ve watched the frequency of seizures in epilepsy patients slow down. I’ve worked with people who have PTSD, and watched them gain their independence—and thus, their lives—back. I’ve even watched the terminally ill enjoy their last few weeks with their families. All these people have told me that cannabis helped them make these things happen.

And as for the argument of smoking causing negative side effects, I am happy to share the knowledge about cannabis-infused topicals. A lot of people out there don’t know that you don’t have to smoke cannabis to experience its effects. You can rub CBD- or THC-infused lotions and creams on your skin and experience the effects that way. There are so many methods to get incredible results from cannabis without getting “high.”

WB: What do you do? Tell me about your company? What is your six-month plan? One year? What market do you want to break into but obstacles are in the way?

CR: I am the founder and creator of Canna Hemp™ and the CEO of 1933 Industries (TGIFF), Canna Hemp™’s parent company. I have a passion for formulating products that help people live better lives, which is how Canna Hemp™ was born.

How ESG Data May Help Enhance Long-Term Value And Manage Risk
Under the Canna Hemp™ brand, we offer CBD-infused elixirs, vape pens and cartridges, capsules, body lotions, lip balms and an award-winning Relief Cream. We currently are producing these products in Nevada, Colorado and California, and our distribution has surpassed 800 retail outlets across the United States.

1933 Industries has a large portfolio of cannabis brands. In addition to Canna Hemp™, the company also owns Alternative Medicine Association (the first licensed marijuana cultivator in Nevada) and Canna Hemp X™ (a brand of CBD-infused products aimed at the action-sports demographic). The portfolio has further expanded due to licensing agreements, as we have signed deals with high-profile cannabis brands such as Denver Dab Co., OG DNA Genetics and Blonde™ Cannabis. As for our plans for the next six months and year, we hope to continue our expansion state by state, bringing our award-winning products to consumer markets across the U.S. In addition to growing here in our home country, we are aiming to break into the European market. We hope to gain access into Canada and use those relationships as a springboard to go across the pond. After that, it’s Asia and the rest of the world.

WB: Do you cook? If so, who taught you? Do you have a favorite dish? What about a favorite restaurant? Where? What kind of food?

CR: I love to cook, it’s one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. I'm completely self-taught. I learned just like the other millennials learn—through YouTube! And if I’m in the kitchen, there’s a good chance that I’m making chocolates. I am a self-proclaimed, self-taught chocolatier. You’ll often find me making truffles and bonbons.

But you can’t live off sweets alone, and my favorite dish would have to be barbecued or smoked ribs. My favorite restaurant is probably El Dorado Cantina here in Las Vegas. It’s a Mexican restaurant and many of the dishes are organic, non-GMO, and really health conscious. They even offer a number of vegan dishes—don’t get me wrong, I love meat, but I tend to limit my intake of it. I try to stick to clean, healthy eating, in an effort to lead a clean, healthy lifestyle.

WB: If you could be anywhere in the world where would that be? Doing what? With whom?

CR: There’s a waterfall in Iceland called Skógafoss—that’s where I’d be. Iceland is such a captivating country, and Skógafoss is a prime example of its natural beauty. I’d want to be there during the summertime, and I’d likely be hiking, sightseeing and taking photos—all with my friends, of course.
