An interesting post but here are my thoughts on that though I may be prejudiced.

My company lost over 100 people when the WTC came down and I lost 4 very close friends.

I do work in a high rise in Winston Salem NC and we recently had a fire drill.

In hind sight I should have opted to take the service elevator down but I decided to walk considering it was only 22 flights.

To give you some perspective the building is 32 stories so I was near the top.

The stairwells were pretty tight and circular which gave me the perspective of getting dizzy but I moved on.

Things went pretty smoothly and I was keeping up with the crowd until we got down to about the 15th floor and ran into traffic. Then things slowed down and we moved along like stop light to stop light every time we hit a new floor.

They tell you the stairwells are fire proof so once inside you shouldn't have anything to worry about but as we know they are not plane proof.

I also found with multiple fire drills the grown ups don't take it seriously thus all the chatter on the way down not to mention all the people who had nothing better to do then text.

Next time I'm opting for the service elevator since when I got down to the ground floor my knees were on fire.

Mind you I'm not complaining since the people in the WTC were pretty much fucked. And that is truly sad.
