The bypass and/or sidetrack percentage on wells of similar depth indicate that the Tau well suffered significantly higher difficulties than most (according to my brief scan of BOEM well data)

A pretty high majority seem to be drilled successfully to similar depths without any bypass or sidetrack

however, one variable that is impossible to see in the data is the salt factor
