read the range on these electric motorcycles that Zero is making and selling here in the U.S., the idea of an even heavier bike "being the classic side car design put forth by alyi having a similar range is ridiculous

OK let's do that. From the Zero website...

Zero Range

At present, the longest range in the lineup goes to the Zero SR ZF14.4 + Power Tank with 223 miles in the city. However, there are a number of options with lesser ranges that offer different benefits for those who only want a motorcycle for getting around town or the city...

...According to the US Department of Transportation, the average ‘driver’ travels about 13,476 miles per year. That breaks down to roughly 37 miles on average per day.

The first fleet order was for a ride-share service in Nairobi, Kenya (i.e. city driving). It looks like they could probably squeeze at least 4 or five days of average travel between charges if we conservatively assume that they get 180 miles per charge. If the ride-share company simply spreads a few charge stations strategically around town (I'm sure we're not talking NYC style property values) they'd be all set.

As for showing you a prototype, why should they? You planning on buying a fleet? There are many reasons companies don't disclose information, e.g. protect trade secrets, competitive advantage, etc. We do know that whatever prototype they showed to the Nairobi company was impressive enough for them to place a $1 million order.
