PORTLAND, Ore., Nov 13, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Distributed Management Task Force, Inc. (DMTF(R)), the industry organization leading the development, adoption and promotion of interoperable management initiatives and standards, today announced that the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), an industry standards body formed to develop, define, and promote open standards for trusted computing and security technologies, has become a member of its Alliance Partner Program. Under the agreement, the two organizations will collaborate to help ensure that there is alignment between TCG and DMTF specifications. The results of this collaboration are intended to enable products based on TCG specifications to be managed with DMTF management technologies. The DMTF Alliance Partner program defines formalized liaison relationships between the DMTF and the top non-profit standards bodies in the IT industry. The initial focus of the work with TCG will be on the management of TCG's Trusted Platform Modules. Future efforts will focus on management capabilities for Trusted Storage Devices, as well as management services for the Trusted Computing Platform. "Our open industry standards are key to cross-platform management in distributed environments," said Winston Bumpus, president, DMTF. "We're happy to work with TCG to update the DMTF's specifications to address that organization's important security technologies. This partnership between two of the industry's leading standards bodies will result in significant usability enhancements for end users." "We view working with the DMTF as an important step in ensuring interoperability with other industry standards groups to meet the needs of the marketplace," said Brian Berger, marketing work group chairman, TCG. "The products that use TCG technologies provide the capabilities for protecting information against external software attack and physical theft. TCG technologies are part of the distributed computing environment and as such must be capable of being managed effectively by platform owners. Enabling the use of standards, such as those from the DMTF, can provide management capabilities for TCG-enabled products, which is of critical importance to our members."
